Cain’s Ballroom is going to be the site of a radio broadcast again May 29.
On that date, Grammy-nominated Chicago alt-country singer-songwriter Robbie Fulks is hosting “Live From Cain’s,” a new public radio show concept that will be recorded in front of a live audience at Cain’s Ballroom.
The musical guest will be Texas singer-songwriter Bonnie Bishop. Additional guests will include Tulsa’s Paul Benjaman and the Oklahoma Specials (an all-star house band), plus Kevin Odegard, guitarist on Bob Dylan’s iconic Blood on the Tracks album.
General admission tickets are $25 and are available beginning Friday, April 5 at cainsballroom.com. VIP tickets are $40 and include a reception following the event.
According to a news release, “Live from Cain’s” is a nonprofit endeavor that combines live music with thought-provoking and entertaining conversations. While at Cain’s Ballroom, members of the audience will participate in a live-to-tape production of a pilot episode of the new radio show concept that will then be marketed to public radio stations for national distribution and eventual syndication as an annual 26-episode broadcast.
“We’re excited to be building on the tradition of live radio from this historic venue,” Kelly Burley, co-producer of “Live From Cain’s,” said in the release.
“As the home of Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys in the late ‘30s, the Cain’s Ballroom hosted daily broadcasts with Wills and his band that reached audiences across the U.S. ‘Live from Cain’s’ is an opportunity to bring smart, edgy entertainment to a national public radio audience and a great platform to showcase not only national talent, but Oklahoma talent, as well, and to highlight Tulsa as a premier destination for music, tourism and culture.”
